Resumen

In this review we present the most important applications of lasers in biology and medicine. Ultrafast lasers are basic tools to understand elementary processes in biology, such as photosynthesis, vision, DNA photodynamics and water-protein interactions. Lasers have been also thoroughly employed in developing sophisticated imaging techniques with applications in biomedicine. Moreover, lasers are used today to modify biological tissue in many medical applications extending from ophthalmology to cancer phototherapy
