Resumen

In this paper are exposed the main aspects of the different treatments given by Simon Stevin (1548, 1620) and Pierre Varignon (1654, 1722) regarding the parallelogram rule for the forces. It is shown how different principles are used by both authors in their reasonings and how some peripatetic concepts were in force even in the time of Newton.
