Resumen

The aim of this historical note is to give a brief account of the development of chaos theory. Traditionally, Edward Lorenz, recently death, has been considered as the father of chaos theory. However, an overview of the history of deterministic chaos leads to three main conclusions. First, Lorenz was not the creator of chaos theory. Second, Lorenz’s work was inspired by Birkhoff‘s ideas. And third, butterfly effect was known by Poincaré and Hadamard, among others.
