In this article we briefly review the key concepts on Quantum Chromodynamics as the quantum field theory of strong interactions. After a brief reminder of its origin and gauge structure, we discuss its central features: asymptotic freedom and confinement. We then analyze some of the evidences of the existence of colored partons: lepton-hadron deep inelastic scattering and jets. Next we examine some of the symmetries of QCD: isospin, chiral symmetry and scale invariance, to briefly discuss the structure of the QCD vacuum. Finally, we shortly review some aspects of QCD at high temperature and density.
